Rappahannock Music Society

Supporting music teachers and performances in the Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford areas.

Music lovers and teachers from Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford formed the Rappahannock Music Society to support and promote music in our area.

Rappahannock Music Society completed its very busy 2008 – 2009 season.

With 90% of our 60 members being teachers, there is a large focus of events which showcase and develop the skills of a new generation of musicians. Each year we sponsor:

  • 4 RMS recitals:
  •   For Boys Only
  •   The More the Merrier (Holiday music for duets and ensembles)
  •   Gold Cup Recital (for students who have earned NFMC Gold Cups)
  •   National Music Week (unrestricted)
  • 2 RMS festivals:
  •   Jazz Festival
  •   Sonatina/Sonata Festival
  • RMS Scholarship Competition
  •   Each year we offer $2775 in awards to 18 students
  • Eligibility to participate in the NFMC Gold Cup Junior Festival, Manassas
  • Eligibility to participate in the VFMC Mary Smart Competition

We also offer the community free concerts through our “Music at Noon” series.  Our 7 concerts were Meet the Members, Homeschoolers in Concert, Parade of American Music with guitarist Robert Davezac, A Saxophone Quartet, University of Mary Washington Students, Winners of the RMS Scholarship Competition, and the Crusade for Strings.

This year we refined and developed our website, RMusicSoc.org, which gives club information 24/7 to answer the what, where and when questions everyone has.

We also introduced a new Mentor Program for members to observe and support fellow teachers.  It is a great way for new members to get acquainted with RMS.

Our officers for the 2009 - 2010 season include 3 new members serving with a “seasoned” president, assuring RMS will pass the club to a new generation of music lovers and teachers.

Check back often to this website through the summer and preview our 2009-10 season.

Happy Music Making!
