The name of the organization shall be the Rappahannock Music Society (the Society). The organization shall be affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs.
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote and encourage an appreciation of music, to proved opportunities for music study and performance, to promote American music and American artists and to aid and encourage musical education.
Membership in the Rappahannock Music Society is open to anyone with an interest in music.
Annual dues for members shall be established by the Board of Directors. Membership runs from June 1st through May 31st
Section 1: The officers shall be the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Officers will be elected for one year term. No officer may be elected to the same office for more than two years consecutively.
Section 2: The Board of Directors shall include the four officers as well as the Past Presidents of the Rappahannock Music Society.
Section 3: When a vacancy occurs in an office other than the President, the vacancy will be filled by Presidential appointment. In case of a vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice-President shall accede to the office and serve until the end of the term.
Section 1: The regular meetings of the Society shall be held monthly from September through May. An regular meeting may be omitted or date changed by the President with the concurrence of the Vice- President or Secretary.
Section 2: Noon concerts shall be scheduled monthly from September through May. These may be omitted or the date changed by the President with the concurrence of the Vice President or the Secretary.
Section 3: A quorum shall be the majority of active members present.
Section 4: Meetings of the Board of the Directors will be held at the discretion of the President.
Section 1: Committees will be established by either the Board of Directors or President to meet the needs of the Society.
Section 2: All Committees will present reports at monthly meetings as necessary.
Section 3: Committee chairs will present reports at monthly meetings as necessary.
In the event of the dissolution of the Rappahannock Music Society, the Board of Directors shall first pay all obligations due by the Society or that will become due, and all the remaining funds and assets of the organization shall be turned over to the Mary Washington College Foundation for use by the Music Department.
Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised shall govern the organization in all cases in which they are not in conflict with these bylaws.
These by-laws may be amended or repealed at any regular meeting by 2/3 vote of the active members present.
