Teachers’ Tips and Tricks When stressing the true meaning of the clef signs I frequently use colored gel pens to highlight the F and G lines then place the pens on the respective keys. I then point out that they are equidistant from Middle C.
Another somewhat unconventional trick I use in teaching 8th note rhythm is to use a tap dancing step to demonstrate to sound of the 2 note rhythm. I sometimes use a Hershey chocolate bar to show how notes multiply or divide in value--then we eat the lesson. Delicious!!

VFMC Dues, due
JUNIOR COUNSELORS
Every VFMC member who wishes to enter students in a Junior Music Festival must pay Junior Counselor Dues. They are due no later than postmark deadline of November 30, 2008. A $10 late fee will be charged after November 30. If dues are not paid by postmarked deadline of December 31, 2008 said clubs/members are ineligible to participate in festivals. A $10 fine will be charged for checks returned by the bank.
The dues statements were mailed on September 15. Members who did not receive a form may request one from the State Treasurer (email: ymsfred@earthlink.net) or their Area Festival Chairman.
FESTIVAL FEES
National has increased the amount for each entry in the Junior Music Festivals. The increase is $1.50 per entry. They are planning to put the festival registration online by the year 2011. Therefore the VFMC festival fee will now be $6.50 per entry.
