Next RMS Recitals
For Boys Only, Sunday November 9, at CRRLibrary on Caroline Street.  Students must be in their seats by 2:10 p.m. for a 2:30 recital.

The More the Merrier, Sunday, December 7 at CRRLibrary.  Applications and fees must be received by Sandra Anderson by Nov. 30. Please remember all participating teachers must bring refreshments and help set-up or clean up.

Teachers’ Tips and Tricks
When stressing the true meaning of the clef signs I frequently use colored gel pens to highlight the F and G lines then place the pens on the respective keys.  I then point out that they are equidistant from Middle C.

Another somewhat unconventional trick I use in teaching 8th note rhythm is to use a tap dancing  step to demonstrate to sound of the 2 note rhythm.  I sometimes use a Hershey chocolate bar to show how notes multiply or divide in value--then we eat the lesson.  Delicious!!

Membership Exchange
Would anyone from RMS would be interested in sharing some recital time at James Monroe High school?....I'm trying to book the school for Saturday, January 17th. Contact Susan Flinn

 VFMC Dues, due

JUNIOR COUNSELORS

Every VFMC member who wishes to enter students in a Junior Music Festival must pay Junior Counselor Dues. They are due no later than postmark deadline of November 30, 2008. A $10 late fee will be charged after November 30. If dues are not paid by postmarked deadline of December 31, 2008 said clubs/members are ineligible to participate in festivals. A $10 fine will be charged for checks returned by the bank.

The dues statements were mailed on September 15. Members who did not receive a form may request one from the State Treasurer (email: ymsfred@earthlink.net) or their Area Festival Chairman.

FESTIVAL FEES

National has increased the amount for each entry in the Junior Music Festivals. The increase is $1.50 per entry. They are planning to put the festival registration online by the year 2011.
Therefore the VFMC festival fee will now be $6.50 per entry.
