Sonata Sonatina Festival Report
March 2008
Co-chairmen Nackie Steinbach and Elin Havrilla
The 14th annual RMS Sonata/Sonatina Festival for 2008 was held on Saturday, March 8 at the University of Mary Washington in Pollard and duPont Halls. We used four rooms for the auditions: The recital hall on the third floor, the choral room on the second floor, the orchestra room on the first floor and a classroom.
This year we had a total of 260 entries representing the studios of 18 teachers who are members of the Rappahannock Music Society.
The fee was $8.00 per student per entry. Students entering both solo and duet events were assessed $16.00. The total amount of money collected in entry fees was $2064.00.
A rosette ribbon with the number of years of participation and a certificate for each participant has been provided. Judges comment sheets were given to the teachers at the event.
This year we had
2 students earn a 10th year ribbon
1 student earn a 9th year ribbon
7 students earn an 8th year ribbon
The ribbons were ordered from Team Sports and Awards in Fredericksburg. The total number of ribbons ordered was 244 and the cost was $1038.65. We were able to order fewer ribbons because we still had some left over from last year’s festival.
The cost of the certificates was $121.50
Each teacher who entered students served as a judge.
