Why Choose an RMS Teacher?
Because we offer more!
RMS is a club of music lovers and teachers. As professionals meet together, they enrich each other. This results in an increasing quality of teaching available to their students. RMS teachers offer your children more performance opportunities. These opportunities include:
1. RMS Junior Recitals 2. The NFMC Junior Festival 3. The Jazz Festival 4. The Sonatina Festival. 5. The Scholarship – Award Competition
Performing before an audience yields many benefits. It develops poise and confidence, plus your child gets to be the family star for the day. And that feels good! Your student will have more performance opportunities when studying with an RMS teacher.
-A personal testimonial-
When I first opened my piano studio I was a “lone ranger teacher,” confident in my training in the classics, theory, and music history. My students played the normal classical repertoire, as well as Broadway, pop, and church music. Then I was introduced to the Rappahannock Music Society, where I met area teachers and listened to the chit-chat at the meetings and events. What an eye-opener!
I participated in RMS festivals and recitals. Since teachers who enter students in the festivals are required to serve as judges, I was able to hear what other students were doing. This reminded me to focus attention on the details in the music so my own students would shine in their performances. Plus, I was introduced to a whole New World: American composers.
Since each recital and festival has a different theme, it guarantees that students will learn a variety of music styles and composers. As teachers and students are exposed to the music skills of other teachers and students, everyone grows and develops. We become better teachers and our students become better musicians.
I feel that I have so much more to offer my students now that I am involved in RMS. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and neither would my students!
