Rappahannock Music Society

Supporting music teachers and performances in the Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford areas.

Music lovers and teachers from Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford formed the Rappahannock Music Society to support and promote music in our area.

Our student programs form the backbone of local performance opportunities for young musicians. We offer festivals, recitals, concerts, and scholarships. All RMS concerts and recitals are free and open to the public. We welcome all music lovers to enjoy our music

Since only students of RMS teachers may participate in our activities, choose the music teacher for your student from the many listed under “Find a Teacher”. We invite you to browse our website and discover the many advantages of Rappahannock Music Society membership, both for music teachers as well as students and their parents.

RMS is more than just lessons and student recitals.  We offer to the local community the Music at Noon Concert Series where professional musicians play a variety of styles.  The 40 minute concerts are taylor-made for a lunch hour reprieve. Our monthly meetings have topics of general interest and are open to the public. In March Doug Henderson will give an Introduction to Gospel Music; April features Christine Bemko Kril on American Women Composers.

In April 2008 we awarded 18 students a total of $2775 in the Scholarship Competition.  Those wishing to support this program may give to the scholarship fund. (contact Susan Bessette) All donations are appreciated and will be recognized with a tax receipt. Or perhaps someone would like to sponsor the 2009 Scholarship Competition ($2775) or adopt a division ($450).  All monies go to the awards.  Our next Scholarship Competition is March 7, 2009.  The winners will give their concert on March 29.  (See RMS At a Glance to the right.)
