The Virginia Federation of Music Clubs

The Virginia Federation of Music Clubs was organized February 21, 1920, in Roanoke, when representatives of the State Music Teachers Association and of the State Music clubs gathered to form a central body. The Federation focuses on advancing the musical interests of a community through the close cooperation of the community's music club members and music teachers. The Federation’s motto is “Music for Virginia and Virginia for Music”.

The first Young Artist Contest in Virginia was held in Richmond in 1921. This contest for young students in voice, piano and violin, has become an outstanding event of the Federation, one that inspires many young musicians to greater endeavor and more perfect musicianship.

The VFMC joined the National Federation of Music Clubs in 19xx. Member clubs now enjoy the advantages of affiliation with NFMC, which has its own extensive programs to advance music in America.

Today there are 23 music clubs in 3 districts across Virginia. RMS is among the most active of those music clubs, winning awards and recognition for a variety of music themes. Association with VFMC and NFMC gives our member teachers access to the very many student contests and events that have evolved through the years. For example we participate in the following competitions:

The VFMC will hold its 90th Annual Convention in Fredericksburg on April 28-30. 2011 NFMC Convention Call. All RMS members are invited to attend.
